EMS Safety Systems, Strategies and Solutions Summit

The 2012 TRB EMS Safety Systems, Strategies and Solutions Summit was held from the Keck Center in Washington DC, Feb 29, 2012 and was simulcast at EMS Today. It featured an opening address from EMS Today by AJ Heightman.

he TRB booth in the lobby at EMS Today, many people stopped by to learn more about the Summit. The 2012 Summit included an interdisciplinary update on EMS and Medical Transport Safety development over the previous 36 months.

There was a focus on new systems safety technology solutions that are currently available and also those under development. It included innovative fleet and vehicle solutions as well as new initiatives in testing and standards. The full day 2012 Summit brought together a spectrum of diverse expertise and representation. Many government agencies participated including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Department of Transportation ITS, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Federal Highways Administration (FHWA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

EMS State Directors and EMS Services participated from across North America including Fire/EMS, Volunteer EMS, EMS Physicians, and Industry partners for better EMS Equipment and vehicles, including academics and technical experts from fields such as automotive safety engineering, occupant protection, ergonomics and human factors.

A comprehensive overview of the range of EMS transport safety issues were addressed. The theme was: Systems Safety Strategies and Solutions.
